Ah...
She assumed no one was there, but it seemed he had been using the shower. Steam rose from Hyun's body as he emerged, covered in a single towel.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know anyone was here."
So-jung apologized belatedly, but Hyun, with arms crossed and eyebrows raised, seemed displeased with her reaction.
"Isn't it normal to be surprised?"
"Why be surprised?"
At So-jung's genuine question, Hyun ran a hand through his wet hair in frustration. Only then did she seem to understand his inquiry.
"Perhaps you might have forgotten, but we are married. I've seen you naked hundreds of times already."
So-jung wondered how Hyun would react if she mentioned that they not only saw each other naked but also did everything else and even had a child together.
But what would be the point of saying that now? Moreover, So-jung was exhausted from playing with Harim and driving the whole day. A nearly naked man in the same room with a woman— it was a rather intimate moment.
However, So-jung yawned softly, and Hyun simply stared at her in disbelief.
"So, why did you come? To remind me again that we are married?"
"No, I came to tell you something."
So-jung handed Hyun the note she was holding.
"I met Han Soo-ah today."
"...What? Really?"
"Yes, she wanted to meet you as well. Which is why she wrote down the time and date on this note..."
Ah.
Hyun's body suddenly leaned closer. Water was still dripping from his wet hair onto the floor, but Hyun didn't care and reached for the note.
"Give it to me."
"...You should dry yourself first. The note will get wet."
"Oh, right."
Hyun acknowledged his state and ran back to the bathroom. So-jung quietly watched his retreating figure.
But did his body remember?
This place was the bedroom the two used to stay in when they visited the villa.
Familiar with the bed, So-jung situated herself comfortably and waited for Hyun. She felt her eyelids grow heavy at the familiar, soft sensation.
"..."
How much time had passed? When Hyun, now fully dressed, came out, So-jung was already resting against the pillow with her eyes closed. Hyun tilted his head at the sight.
"What? You're seriously sleeping right now?"
Despite Hyun's raised eyebrows, So-jung was sound asleep. Realizing she was indeed unconscious, Hyun's mouth dropped open.
"What kind of woman sleeps in a man's room...?"
Mumbling in disbelief, Hyun abruptly halted. Perhaps it wasn't strange for them to share the same bedroom.
However, Hyun couldn't accept this. To So-jung, Hyun was her husband, but to Hyun, So-jung was just a woman he had met a few times, occupying the status of a wife. Yet, there she was, taking over his bed, complicating Hyun's mind.
No, he should just wake her up.
It was his bed she was sleeping in. He had every reason to do so. It was absurd to even have such a dilemma.
"Wake up..."
As Hyun reached out to wake So-jung, he caught sight of the note. He glanced at it briefly and then changed direction and picked it up.
I heard your story. I'll visit the villa around nine in the morning tomorrow. I have a lot to say to you. Hyun.
It was a very familiar handwriting. Hyun recognized the owner instantly. He gripped the note, overwhelmed by a rare familiarity that co-existed within an otherwise foreign situation.
The thought of meeting Soo-ah again curled Hyun's lips into a smile, his first since the accident.
"..."
But Hyun's smile soon faded as he looked back at the snoozing So-jung.
〈Whatever you do, and whoever you meet, don't forget you're married.〉
That was what Kang-chan had warned Hyun before he left the villa. Kang-chan didn't seem to prefer Hyun meeting Soo-ah, but Hyun thought differently.
In a marriage of convenience, a lot of alimony and a divorce would solve everything.
After all, So-jung was a heartless woman who handed her husband a note from his ex. It was clear she didn't care for him. Didn't she have zero reaction to his naked body just earlier?
Let's get a divorce.
That was Hyun's conclusion. He didn't wish to continue a relationship devoid of feelings. He believed his pre-accident self would have regretted such a marriage. He was simply carrying out what he thought his past self would have decided.
Huu.
So-jung's head was slowly drooping. Hyun chuckled incredulously at the action. So-jung then mumbled in her sleep.
"Sorry, I'm sorry..."
"..."
"For saving me..."
So-jung's mumbling grew fainter and soon faded. Hyun sighed lightly and lifted her onto the bed properly.
"What kind of boring sleep talk is that."
So-jung's brows furrowed slightly— it seemed she was having a nightmare. Hyun gazed at her for a moment, then turned off the light and left the room.
Mmm...
The next morning, So-jung arose from her slumber to the sunlight streaming through the curtains. Realizing she was in bed, She quickly sat up.
Where is this...
Only after a moment did she realize what had happened the night before. She rubbed her forehead in agony.
Goodness, no matter how tired I was...
So-jung scanned her surroundings to find herself alone. She simply gaped into the blanket which covered her.
"Hey, Choi Hyun. Are you still sleeping?"
At that moment, Kang-chan's voice resonated alongside a knock.
"If you're awake, come out quickly. The lady of the house has prepared breakfast...Madam?"
After Kang-chan casually entered the room, he was startled to find So-jung seated on the bed instead of his boss. So-jung smiled awkwardly.
"How did you... Madam, did you sleep here?"
"I stopped by for a quick visit last night and fell asleep. I just woke up."
"Did you? I'm sorry. I thought the chairman was the only one here and just barged in..."
So-jung noticed Kang-chan's pale face and reassured him as she stood up.
"It's my fault for barging without a word and falling asleep."
"Even so..."
"It's truly alright, just go find my husband. I'll be leaving now."
A freshly prepared meal was situated on the dining table. Recalling this, Kang-chan quickly followed So-jung.
"Please don't leave without having breakfast, Madam."
"It's fine. I'll eat later."
She had intended to stay briefly, but it turned into an overnight visit. As So-jung bent down to put on her shoes, the door opened, and Hyun walked in.
"Leaving already?"
Hyun was in workout clothes, having just returned from exercising. He smirked at So-jung.
"So you do get embarrassed. Running in such a hurry."
"I'm sorry for taking over your bed. I was so tired I fell asleep."
"Yeah, you even snored."
At Hyun's teasing, So-jung's eyebrows slightly raised.
"...Still, thank you for putting me to bed properly."
"That was a bit tough, even though I can easily lift one hundred kilos."
"I don't think I'm that heavy."
"Really? Felt like it to me."
Sparks flew between them. Sandwiched in between, Kang-chan nervously glanced between the two. So-jung was the first to yield.
"...Anyway, I'll be going. Have a good rest."
She put on her shoes and left, followed by Kang-chan. Hyun watched her leave before turning back inside.
"Are you really leaving, Madam?"
"I have a schedule this afternoon. It's better to move quickly."
"Ah, by any chance, is it the kindergarten mothers' meeting..."
"Shh."
At So-jung's signal to be quiet, Kang-chan realized his slip and lowered his voice.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize..."
"That's enough apologizing. But please be careful. He might hear."
"Yes, I will make sure, but... Then, for the time being, will Madam hide the child from the CEO?"
"...That's right."
After a moment of silence, So-jung responded.
"Do you think my husband would be upset if he realized the child's existence?"
"...I can't say he wouldn't. He didn't want children back then."
"Why is that?"
"I'm not sure... perhaps the burden of being the chairman's son was too heavy? He even went abroad to study as a means of escape."
"...I see."
So-jung's eyes darkened. Kang-chan quickly continued.
"But that's all in the past. After he regains his memory, he'll surely love his child like before."
"...Do you think so?"
"Of course. So, let's keep the child's existence a secret for now..."
But Kang-chan's words were cut off by the appearance of a woman.
"..."
It didn't take long for So-jung to realize the woman was Soo-ah.
