"He is suffering from amnesia."

"..."

"Due to the head trauma sustained during the accident, it appears his memory is fragmented. Further tests are necessary for confirmation, but it is evident that he does not recognize his wife."

Upon hearing the doctor's continued explanation, So-jung clenched her fists tightly.

"Is there a chance he might regain his memory?"

"It's possible, but we cannot predict when that might occur. Fortunately, the patient hasn't lost all his memories, so we should monitor his progress for now..."

The doctor's attempt at reassurance offered little comfort to So-jung. She was even more shocked. Her husband never responded to her so coldly like this. It was as if he had become a completely different person.

While So-jung was overwhelmed with confusion, Hyun was equally bewildered. He touched the bandages wrapped around his head in disbelief and then turned to face Kang-chan who stood beside him.

"Kim Kang-chan. What’s happening here?"

"..."

"Is today April Fools? And what's with your appearance? Those glasses don’t suit you at all."

Kang-chan, Hyun’s longtime friend and current secretary, found Hyun laughing at his appearance unsettling.

"Sir, do you truly not remember anything?"

"Are you crazy? Why would you call me ‘sir’?"

Hyun frowned at Kang-chan's formal tone. Kang-chan's face contorted in return.

"Sir."

"Stop calling me that."

"...Choi Hyun. How old are you?"

"Twenty."

Kang-chan didn’t respond but instead handed a mirror to Hyun. Hyun’s eyes widened as he gazed at his reflection for the first time since regaining consciousness.

"What is this?"

"..."

"What’s with this hairstyle, and my face? It looks different somehow."

Hyun began to trace his features, noticing the apparent changes from over the past ten years. Kang-chan quickly spoke up.

"Listen carefully, Choi Hyun."

"..."

"You were in a car accident and hit your head. The accident erased your memories of the past decade."

"...What?"

"You were a student abroad back then, but you are currently not. You are the CEO of a subsidiary of Kyungmoon Group, your father's company, and you’re also married."

The room fell silent, and Hyun’s expression hardened.

"I’m married?"

"Remember the woman who rushed in here earlier? She is your wife."

"I’m married to that woman? Then what about Soo-ah?"

At the mention of Soo-ah, Kang-chan quickly covered Hyun’s mouth and glanced around nervously.

"Don’t say that name!"

"Why not? What happened to Soo-ah?"

"Forget it. You and Han Soo-ah are nothing to each other now! You broke up."

Kang-chan’s words sent Hyun into turmoil. Noticing Hyun’s emotional shift, Kang-chan ran a hand through his hair, distressed.

"Han Soo-ah married someone else a while ago. I don’t even know what she’s doing now."

"..."

"Anyway, you need to rest first. We can talk about the rest later..."

"Let go."

Hyun yanked out the IV from his wrist and stood up as blood trickled down his fingers.

"Hey, you can’t..."

It all happened so quickly that Kang-chan had no time to stop him. He scarcely managed to block Hyun's path.

"Are you insane? Where could you go in that state?"

"I’m going to see Soo-ah."

"What?"

"I won’t believe anything until I hear it from Soo-ah directly."

"..."

"Move."

Hyun’s tone was ice-cold, causing even Kang-chan to swallow nervously. But the tension between the two was soon interrupted.

"You can’t leave in your condition."

"..."

"You haven’t even completed all the tests."

So-jung entered the room quietly, drawing Hyun’s angry gaze.

"I’ll call a nurse to clean up the blood..."

"You’re my wife?"

"...Yes."

Hyun was not in the mood to comply. Nonetheless, despite her first time receiving such hostility from her husband, So-jung met his gaze abashedly.

"I don’t accept this."

"..."

"Unless my future self has lost his mind, a woman like you isn’t my type."

The tension between them grew so palpable that Kang-chan could barely stand still. So-jung continued.

"Whether your future self married me because of a head injury or not, I can’t let you leave in this state."

"And if I insist?"

"I’ll use force to put you back in bed."

She gestured towards the door with her chin.

"There are countless guards outside this hospital right now."

"..."

"In your condition, you wouldn’t even make it out of this floor."

Her message was clear: lie back down. However, Hyun didn’t budge.

"Let’s see about that."

"..."

"Let’s see how well you stop me."

As Hyun stepped closer to So-jung, Kang-chan, unable to withstand the pressure any longer, moved to intervene.

"I’ll let you meet Han Soo-ah if you stay still."

"...What?"

"I’ll find her for you. Just get back in bed."

Kang-chan was the one shocked this time at So-jung's mention of Soo-ah.

"Are you serious?"

"Considering she was your lover ten years ago, I can find her faster than you can."

"..."

"So lie back down."

So-jung pointed towards the bed, and with that, the commotion in the hospital room ceased.

"He is suffering from amnesia."

"...Amnesia?"

"Yes. To be precise, he cannot remember the past decade. He believes he’s twenty years old."

"My goodness, my goodness..."

"Ma’am!"

Upon hearing her son's condition from the secretary, Mi-ae’s body staggered again. She slumped into a chair, her shoulders trembling from the shock.

"Twenty years old? That’s when we sent him abroad, right?"

"Yes, that’s correct."

Choi Hyun at twenty.

Calling it studying abroad was generous; it was more like an escape. Back then, Hyun was uncontrollable even by Mi-ae. He constantly caused trouble, and no one could rein him in.

Fearing public backlash from his antics, Mi-ae had sent him abroad.

"Is there a chance he’ll regain his memory?"

"There is, but we don’t know when. Thankfully, he’s calm and receiving treatment in the hospital. His wife is with him every day."

"She is?"

Hearing about So-jung from the secretary made Mi-ae scowl. She had heard that Hyun's injury was a result of his trying to protect So-jung during the accident. Mi-ae's resentment towards So-jung only grew.

"And, Ma’am, Mr. Hyun has been asking to see someone named Han Soo-ah."

"Han Soo-ah? Who is that?"

"She was his girlfriend during the time he studied abroad. She is the only daughter of Dongyoung Group's chairman and currently lives in Korea."

"Dongyoung Group..."

A significant company that had grown even more recently, possessing technology that Kyungmoon Group coveted.

"It seems Mr. Hyun was very fond of her. He keeps asking to see her."

"...Is Han Soo-ah married?"

"She was, but she’s divorced now and raising a young daughter."

Choi Hyun, the only son of Kyungmoon Group’s chairman, was a source of immense pride for Mi-ae.

But despite her pride, Hyun had married the daughter of a small business owner—a man who was her husband Seok’s long-time friend.

Their children's marriage had been a natural result of that friendship, but the small business went bankrupt just months after the wedding. So-jung's father passed away from his illness, and Seok was bedridden from an accident.

After So-jung's father’s death, Mi-ae naturally wanted her son to divorce the useless child. However, So-jung's pregnancy complicated things and Hyun seemed to have no intention of divorcing her.

But now?

Hyun had forgotten about his wife and child and was searching for Dongyoung Group's only daughter. Mi-ae’s mind raced.

"Arrange a meeting with Han Soo-ah as soon as possible."

"Understood."

Dongyoung Group’s promising daughter Soo-ah versus So-jung, with nothing to offer. To Mi-ae, the choice was clear. Her eyes gleamed with determination.
