Episode 3 Reason for Divorce

Chapter 3.

“…Yes?”

The maid, who had been bulshitting nonsense for a long time now, stared at me in surprise.

I looked at her with a look of surprise.

“I’m only noticing that you have so much leisure time, looking at you like this. This isn’t the reason why I give you your paycheck, is it? Besides, I believe your words are quite dangerous. It almost seems to me that you don’t concur with the Count. If you think treason is unjust, that means you have an unfaithful heart towards the Emperor. I don't wish for the empire to be in chaos once again. I need for you to confirm your thoughts with the knights at once.”

“…Pardon? Ma-madam… How could you say that... I'm only worried about you… He is your husband, but to be mentioning your late parents in such a cruel way…”

The maid didn’t seem to fathom my response.

Since she believes me to be Adelia, this truly wasn’t something I would say. Especially regarding treason.

I had no intention of showing mercy to the maid who brutally trampled on Adelia’s wounds, for her selfish purposes.

Perhaps it was a precisely calculated act.

The maid would mention treason and lead Adelia to express her agony as well. That would allow the maid to gossip to others about Adelia casually mentioning treachery, leaving her in a more unstable position.

“Why don't you mind your own business and worry about your fate? I'm quite curious how the guards will handle you.”

“Ma-madam. It's not like that. I know that the treason, no, the revolt, was justified. Although I am serving the lady, if it were not for His Majesty the Emperor, the Empire would remain in long darkness.”

The maid, terrified, strongly denied what I had claimed.

“Then what did you just speak? Why did you say such a thing towards the Count, when you thought the same as him? At least his Excellency does not speak differently in front of me, as he does behind me.”

I wanted to say something worse, but I kept my mouth shut.

I couldn't talk recklessly while I wasn't sure how deep I could bury my feet here.

“Madam, I just wanted to comfort you.”

“I can't forgive you for mentioning treason as an excuse to comfort me. Don't speak to me anymore, you can do so with headquarters.”

“Ma-madam… madam… Please forgive me just once.”

How long has it been since her face became so distorted?

I was used to people like that.

The kind of person who rejoices while watching others suffer, and recklessly reassures themselves that such things would never happen to them.

I don't mean to blame those people.

I am just simply a person who enjoys watching such people suffer.

I gazed at her indifferently and pulled the cord to call a servant.

At first, I was more confused about what this dilemma was, but now that I passed the stage, it didn’t seem all difficult.

It was like suddenly being pushed onto the stage and playing a given role without time to practice.

It seems I could imitate Adelia’s role, although clumsily.

After a while, the door opened, and the servant came in.

She, too, would have probably been sent here to ravage Adelia’s spirit.

She peculiarly glanced at the maid in front of her and bent down before me.

“Did you call? Madam.”

“I’ll be leaving, so prepare the bath.”

"…Yes, Madam….”

She couldn't hide her puzzled expression.

"Madam… please forgive me. That's not what I meant at all. I only felt sorry for the lady, so please don't send me to headquarters.”

At that, the servant’s face stiffened.

I could see her wondering what this meant.

“You shut up.”

“Madam…”

The maid seemed to be greatly perplexed by the current situation.

She wouldn't have thought to be counterattacked in this way by the feeble Countess she knew.

I wasn’t leaving to go to headquarters, but the maid was too busy terrified with her imagination.

For a person who sickened others and did not feel guilty, this was too little to be named revenge.

–––

I took a stroll inside the Count's house after preparing to head out.

I didn’t know how long I would have to stay here in the future, so it would be better to get used to it a little bit. As I roamed around, I could feel a gaze from an upper window of the center building.

‘Rivian Reinhardt.’

I felt the gaze and stared at him.

If it were Adelia, she would have suffered greatly from him, looked down on him with contempt and resentment, and glared at him with bloody hell in her eyes.

Most of what she spoke to him was crying and screaming for a divorce.

And each time, Rivian felt the pain of his heart being ripped to pieces as he refused her request.

His face was never described in detail because he was always covered in gray shadows.

If it wasn't for Kim Do-Hyun whom I last saw before I blackened out, I wouldn't have had such great interest in the man named Rivian.

I would have just done my part in moderation and found a way to return to my life.

Part of my life was wasted because I didn’t know what kind of bastard Kim Do-Hyun was, but the wounds from my broken heart were not so severe. I just needed to quickly leave this place and return to my daily life.

I would just finish my role here quickly, solve this mess, and go back to the world I was in… But strangely enough, he bothered me.

This fate of his, to leave the woman he loved to die in poverty, kept striking me again and again.

I beamed at him as he hid in the shadows.

I wasn't sure he could recognize my smile because of the distance, but it would be nice if this comforted him.

Adelia's life was monotonous.

There was only a limited number of people she could talk to.

Adelia may have thought she was choosing who she desired to speak with, but the truth was otherwise.

No matter who she conversed with, all had previously designated words assigned to them.

Several people soon approached me and interrupted my walk.

And started talking as they were told.

At first, everything initiated differently, but the direction of their conversation naturally led to Rivian’s unfaithfulness.

He was like this, who do you think he is with now, who he was with last night, what rumors were circulating outside.

I didn't have to listen to all of them, but I still did, waiting to see how they would act next.

They seemed thrilled at the notion that I was listening to them.

‘I think I made a mistake earlier. I shouldn't have done that. A report must have been sent to the Emperor about now. If he finds out I've changed, he might decide another method.’

At first, I didn't think it was going to be that big a deal, but when I delved into the consequences, I concluded that my safety might not be guaranteed here.

The reason why Rivian could not go against the Emperor was that the Emperor threatened him using Adelia. The Emperor had frequently warned Rivian that he would throw Adelia to his men.

‘What the… I'm that Adelia now…’

My eyes darkened at the sudden thought that came to mind.

My heart beat faster as I recognized this as my story now.

‘Oh... Just what is this, Yoo Shi Ah? I'll have to think before committing from now on.’

I regretted thoughtlessly stepping on the maid earlier.

It wasn't like I intended to leave her humiliation, according to my personality.

She was like a dog, but this is a situation where the Emperor's dog has the right to escape a life or death situation.

‘Ugh…!’

I wanted to scream in agony, but I couldn't because of all the servants surrounding me.

When I carefully examined the situation, I could sense a high number of servants. Perhaps too high a number.

This was apparent since the Emperor granted the Count a huge amount of support to witness Adelia's blood dry up. On the outside, they disguised themselves as maids, but each of them was like an assassin who slowly led Adelia to her death.

‘I'm not supposed to continue living in this body, am I?’

I didn’t know why I was here, but right now, it seemed more urgent to avoid things that I might suffer from, not to busy myself revealing the injustice around here.

As seconds went by, I became more aware of the graveness of the situation.

‘Rivian is the only one on my side in this situation.’

In the end, that was the only conclusion I could reach.

However, it was impossible to approach Rivian without permission.

“Madam, it seems like it's going to rain. Shouldn't you head inside now?”

The servants seemed worried that I would go to headquarters.

I felt myself temporarily having the upper hand now, but I would probably be the one suffering the most damage when that limit is reached. At that thought, I decided to yield to them.

The servants seemed very proud to have reversed my will. On the other hand, I graciously admitted defeat.

I had to survive anyway, for a long time.

But my life would be different from Adelia's.

With the help of Rivian, I would pierce a dagger into the Emperor’s heart to avenge Adelia.

The sky was a little dark, but it didn't look like it would rain anytime soon.

Still, I was willing to be fooled.

They pulled me out of the carriage, and within a few hours, Rivian’s tale that I had already become accustomed to, once again reached my ears.

Hi guys! This is a novel I happened to stumble upon a while ago. The summary caught my attention and I skimmed through it, finding it quite a good read! Unfortunately however, I was unable to extract the remaining chapters. I would love to continue this, that is, if someone volunteers to provide the raws. If not, then I just want to put out these chapters in case someone else takes this project. That is all!
